Nexo Card: How It Works, Credit and Debit Modes, Fees and Who Can Get It

How does the Nexo Card work? Per its official page, it has a Debit Mode and a Credit Mode backed by crypto, DiPocket UAB as issuer, and European eligibility.

The Nexo Card works in two modes that you can switch between at any time: Debit Mode, which spends the stablecoins, crypto and fiat-linked assets in your Nexo account, and Credit Mode, which lets you borrow against your crypto instead of selling it. According to Nexo’s official card page, the card is issued by DiPocket UAB and is available only to citizens and residents of selected European countries. Everything below comes from that page, with figures shown as of October 2026.

Nexo’s card is a different design from a plain top-up card, so it helps to understand the two modes before you look at fees. This guide explains each mode, the fees and cashback the page lists, who can apply, and what the page does not tell you.

The Two Modes: Debit and Credit

The Nexo page describes one card with two ways to pay. You choose the mode in the Nexo app, and the page says you can change it whenever you like.

  • Debit Mode: The card spends stablecoins, crypto and what the page calls FiatX assets (EURx, USDx and GBPx). You can rank which assets are used first, and the conversion is handled for you at the moment you pay.
  • Credit Mode: The card draws on a crypto-backed credit line. The page says interest starts from 1.9%, that repayment has no fixed schedule, and that there are no credit checks. Assets you have not put up as collateral keep earning interest.

If you want a refresher on how a debit-style crypto card differs from a credit-style one, our guide to crypto debit cards versus crypto credit cards sets out the difference in plain terms.

Who Issues the Card

The page states that “The Nexo Card is issued by DiPocket UAB.” That matters because the issuer is the company that holds the card programme and its rules, not the app you use to manage it.

The page includes a trademark notice that mentions Mastercard, but it does not say in plain words which payment network the card runs on. We have therefore left the network out of this guide. Check the card terms before you apply if the network matters to you, for example for acceptance abroad.

Virtual and Physical Cards

Nexo offers both formats, and they have different entry requirements.

  • Virtual card: Free to get and activate. The page says you need a $50 account balance to activate it, and that activation happens in the Nexo app, almost instantly.
  • Physical card: Free, including shipping. Ordering requires the Gold Loyalty Tier and a digital asset balance above $5,000.

So the virtual card is open to a smaller balance, while the physical card is tied to a higher loyalty tier. For more on the trade-offs between the two formats, see our guide to virtual versus physical crypto cards.

Fees Listed on the Page

Nexo’s page says there are no monthly, annual or inactivity card fees. It lists the following charges as of October 2026:

Item Amount on the page
Foreign transaction fee, weekdays 0.2% (EEA, UK, Switzerland) or 2% (rest of world)
Foreign transaction fee, weekends 0.7% (EEA, UK, Switzerland) or 2.5% (rest of world)
ATM withdrawal beyond the free limit 2% per withdrawal, minimum 1.99 EUR/GBP
Monthly, annual, inactivity fee None listed

The weekend rate is higher than the weekday rate in both regions, so the day you spend can change the cost of a purchase made in another currency. Our overview of crypto card fees lists the other charges worth checking on any card.

ATM Limits by Loyalty Tier

The page gives a monthly free ATM allowance that depends on your Loyalty Tier:

  • Base: €200 / £180
  • Silver: €400 / £360
  • Gold: €1,000 / £900
  • Platinum: €2,000 / £1,800

Withdrawals beyond the free amount are charged the 2% fee above. The page also says that clients with $100,000 in assets get higher spending limits through Nexo Private. It does not give a standard per-transaction or daily spending limit for the card, so we do not quote one.

Cashback in Credit Mode

The page says cardholders can earn up to 2% in crypto when spending in Credit Mode, with an account balance above $5,000 in digital assets. The reward is paid in NEXO Tokens or Bitcoin, depending on your tier:

Loyalty Tier In NEXO Token In Bitcoin
Platinum 2% 0.5%
Gold 1% 0.3%
Silver 0.7% 0.2%
Base 0.5% 0.1%

Because the paid-out amount is in crypto, its value in dollars can change after you receive it. Our explainer on crypto card cashback covers caps and how to read a headline rate.

Who Can Apply

The page says the card is available only to citizens and residents of selected European countries, including the EEA and the UK. It also says you must pass identity verification using an eligible European identity document. To start, you sign up for a Nexo account, verify your identity and activate the virtual card in the app.

If you live outside Europe, this card is not the one to plan around. Some other cards publish different country lists, and the NORA CARD summary on our site, for example, describes a prepaid Mastercard that works at Mastercard merchants in about 190 countries and regions, with some countries restricted by card type. You can see how it differs on the NORA CARD page, and the full range is on our crypto cards list.

What the Page Does Not Say

A few points are missing from Nexo’s card page, so we do not state them here:

  • The payment network, as noted above.
  • A standard daily or per-transaction spending limit.
  • Details of what can happen to collateral in Credit Mode if its value falls. Read the credit line terms for that before you borrow.
  • Any exchange rate or markup on the conversion in Debit Mode beyond the foreign transaction fees above.

Borrowing against crypto is a larger commitment than spending a balance, so read the loan terms on Nexo’s own site and decide whether the structure suits you.
